Our mission
Men Against Violence is a group of University of Alabama
students, faculty, and staff dedicated to helping bring
about social justice by ending violence against women
through raising awareness, education, personal development,
promotion of diversity, and partnership.
|
Why me?
- A chance to take responsibility and be active
in stopping violence against women
- Gain a better understanding of gender, sexism, and
the causes of violence
- Develop friendships and a support network of
anti-violence men
- Gain leadership skills and develop individual
strengths
- Build your resume
- Become a better man
|

What's the commitment?
- Weekly 1 hour group planning and discussion meetings
- Additional publicity, presentations, awareness
activities, recruitment, or other events (depending on
our calendar, some weeks will be lighter than others)
- Give your time and energy to help
promote nonviolence, but don't worry if you can't make
it to every meeting and event!
|
|
Is it for me?
Membership in MAV is open
to all men who feel strongly about ending violence
against women. Don’t worry if you don’t know much about the
subject: no prior education or experience with activism is
required, and new guys are always welcome. Every member's
individual strengths will be vital:
- public speaking skills
- writing
- art
- publicity
- organization and planning
- networking
- dedication
